And I again wonder why there is no good mpreg in the world.
Instead, there is this: "Summary: Dean and Sam feels ready to get more children, so they visit the fertility Idol again, but does not expect what will come." At the very least, I hope this can be blamed on "English as second language" and not on "American skools suk." I am afraid to click past the summary to find out.

I am spoiled
For the latest SPN. I am now barely able to contain myself while I wait for the download to finish downloading (and then I'll have to wait until tonight to watch it; woe!).

I am a bad person in that I want to write PR apocafic so I can title it "The Lone Ranger". I am a worse person in that this idea was originally, "I wish there was an Autobot who transformed into a Ford Ranger, so I could call a fic..."

In spite of all of this, I kind of want to cry. No, there is no particular reason, aside from my brain being a very fucked up place. Work should be all KINDS of fun today. :P

Wow, Ziggy...just keeps getting creepier

I swear, it's like they hired the SGU writers or something. Though at least we have Dr K to be completely unimpressed by him.

Wow, PR, that is a new low even for you!
I decided to catch up on Power Rangers RPM last night (because I ran out of SPD episodes), which means I have just now seen episode 22, "The Dome Dolls".

You know what I was expecting? Dolls. You know, like the thing Bugglesworth did in SPD? I was not expecting the title to refer to the show's women.

Yes. That's right. It was called "The Dome Dolls" because the women were running things in the dome while the men were unconscious. ::headdesks self into unconsciousness::

Wakes up and cuts to spare you a small rant. )
Apparently, there are like five women in all of Corinth. And Vasquez is the only woman in the whole wide military. And let's not forget Ziggy waxing extra creepy when they were going to release the antidote city-wide: "With all the men asleep, this city's going to be crawling with chicks, eh? It's gonna be like shooting fish in a barrel!"

Edit: The episode can be found here should anyone want to headdesk themselves into oblivion.

Edit 2: You know what would have worked better? If, by liberal application of Handwavium, Dr K, Summer, Gemma, and Vasquez had been the only people awake in the dome, period. Because four people trying to hold the city's defenses? THAT is a worth-while reason to freak out, without the overtones of "OH NOES, what will we do without the MENZ!" (This thought brought to you by the fact that Vasquez all alone in the Command Center really was kind of creepy. That place is meant to be bustling.)

None of this is making me less bitter about our only female Red being evil, guys.

*I like Hicks, actually, but yes, I have resented him every time he's shown up and Vasquez hasn't.

It's not that I don't love you guys
It's just that I am feeling very not-sociable these days, which is likely part stress and part seasonal depression setting in, and thus I haven't been even skimming my flist because I have this weird superstition that if I read you will somehow know I read and did not comment (I also turn off the ringer on my phone, lest the caller psychically know I can hear the ring and am just not answering). But I felt perhaps I should check in and let you know I am not dead.

Also? The Hundred Hat Project is finished. *fistpump* So I immediately started making [info]queenoftheskies a Christmas stocking from KnitPick's Modern Classics Christmas Stocking Kit, which is my first real Fair Isle project and 27 rounds in I'm still mostly having fun with it, even if it does require a bit too much brain. I didn't really care for the green and gold combo, so I bought some Telemark garnet heather and am doing the stocking in red and gold. 'S pretty. (It was only after I was a couple inches in that I realized I was doing it in my high school's colors.) I'm doing it on size 6 needles instead of 5, because the DPNs I ordered specifically for this project were stolen when my mailbox cluster was broken into. The slightly larger needle size doesn't seem to be doing any harm, though.

Let's see, what else? Hmm, after so many weeks that I despaired of Edea EVER being fixed, I was finally able to drive her home...only to have the low pressure line of the power steering system blow (I guess since they replaced the high pressure line so it didn't leak, the low pressure line couldn't take the, er, pressure). But 4-H Lady and her husband and oldest boychild came over to my house and replaced that, and now, FINALLY, Edea is running and drives like a dream. It's amazing what going in and repairing years of half-assed repairs and patch jobs will do for a car. ::hugs car::

I have spent today watching Power Rangers SPD (Power Rangers, still my mental comfort food). A Squad still needs love, but I am fairly certain that SPD had fewer plotholes than the latest episodes of SPN. Just sayin'.

There is no good Nightmare Before Christmas fic in the entire internet. Though now that I've written this right after mentioning SPN, I kind of want someone to write a crossover where Jack Skellington pwnz the Winchesters. Because it would be better than Yet Another Fic where Jack gets a Daughter Sue. (What DID Jack ever do to these fangirls?)

And I think that should prove I am Not Dead Yet, so I'm going back under my rock now.

ETA: Semagic tells me it is a Moogle's birthday, so Happy Birthday, [info]raisedbymoogles!

And then something will happen that does not suck
I have a Knit Picks order (just a tiny one...under $10) that's late. As in, FedEx's tracking says they handed it off to the PO a week ago, and normally I get it the next day, and it's not here yet. So I went to the website to see if tracking had updated, and I guess the new Knit Picks shopping cart software screwed something up, because clicking tracking pulled up an error message, which I dutifully reported (along with a brief explanation of why I was trying to track the package).

And today I get an email that doesn't address my actual problem report, but instead tells me they're re-shipping my late and possibly missing order. *blink*

So, if you ever wonder why Knit Picks gets so much of my money, things like this would be why.

I will be glad when the Hundred Hat Project is over
Not that I haven't enjoyed knitting hats, or that it hasn't done wonders for my knitting speed (I'm probably going to be done by the end of the month, well ahead of schedule, and that's with time-outs to do other things for people). But I tend to take my knitting with me where ever I go (airports are AWESOME places to knit hats, btw), and inevitably, people ask what I'm knitting, and so I tell them it's a hat, and often they ask who it's for/is it a gift, and then I explain...

...and then they give me a subtle (or not so subtle) look of "are you crazy", and ask why. Because apparently it's not obvious that people might like to be less cold in the winter. And I've gotten this reaction from people actively working for charities, like the ones running the food bank for the church by my workplace.

Humans depress me.

When did it start?
The other day, someone looked at the flyer for the pumpkin patch the church across the street is doing, and said, "That surprises me. Most Christians don't celebrate Halloween." Which made me wonder, when did the War on Halloween* start? Because if it's not a fairly recent phenomenon (the first I remember hearing about it was in the 90s), then either America has not always been a Christian Nation, or generations of Christians are in for a big shock.

Of course, when I mentioned to this same person that the Episcopal church near my home when I was a child did a haunted house every year, his reaction was, "Is that like Christian?", which tells me rather a lot.

*See what I did there?

Once upon a time...
...there was a rabbit, with eyes like roses and fur white as snow. And if you think we didn't call her Snow White, you sadly over-estimate the level of self control at my workplace.

Alas, this bunny was $40, and I just couldn't justify buying her; that's a bag of cat food right there. And then I got Schrödinger, of course, who was a lovely bunny for the time I had him.

But today - which was also payday - I walked past Snow's cage and she was on SALE for $9.95. And if you think she wasn't in my car when I left for the day, you sadly over-estimate MY levels of self control.

One Question Interview with Jim Hines
It's still the 6th where I am, okay?

In honor of the release of The Mermaid's Madness, which Amazon has utterly failed to get to me in a timely manner, a question, an answer, and a link to more of the same:

Q: When you realized that The Stepsister Scheme could be the start of a series, did that realization come complete with ideas for the other fairy tales you'd like to use, or did the later books develop as you looked for new fairy tales?

A: I'm trying to remember how exactly it happened. I started thinking about Stepsister back in 2004, even before we had sold the goblin books to DAW. Once I actually started writing it and signed a contract with my publisher, I figured out pretty quickly that I wanted to do The Little Mermaid in book two. Red Riding Hood for book three came pretty quickly too, mostly thanks to a single line in the first book.

Book four took longer to figure out. I had some ideas about what I wanted to do in the last book, but I didn't have a convenient fairy tale to match it up with. So I spent more time reading and rereading fairy tales, both online and in books, and eventually came across The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson. I'm a little ashamed to admit I'd never read this one before, but it fit beautifully with where I wanted to go with the series. I'm very excited about retelling this one.

Go here to see what other people wanted to know about, and what Jim had to say! Go here if you somehow failed to pre-order the awesome and want to rectify that!

The radio tells me...
...that today is Amy Jo Johnson's 39th birthday. Yes, the original Pink Ranger is my age*; how fucked up is that?

Today is also the release date for The Mermaid's Madness. I believe Amazon is going to fail to get me the book today, though, so I will instead be watching the DVD of Disney's Snow White. And pouting. A lot. However, when I get home I'll still be posting my one question interview with Jim Hines.

I must decide what Palette yarn is good for, if one doesn't want to make weird looking Christmas ornaments** or Fair Isle sweaters, because OMG THE COLORS.

In conclusion, dragons: Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

*Granted, one must assume she's always been my age, I just didn't know it until today.

Upon rewatching SPN season 4
My primary thought is, "This fandom needs more Anna/Ruby slash." (I have prompts!) And more Pamela/anyone. And more AUs where Castiel dies and Uriel survives and there is lots of Uriel/Sam and Uriel/Dean hatesex, because REALLY, which is the more interesting angel?

But fandom gives me none of those things, which is why I don't actually interact with fandom-at-large. So instead, I am going to re-watch all the Anna episodes again, and knit a hat that looks like a pumpkin.

This is all on top of the fandom's need for more Impalabot fic, of course.
